For 2012, Zed Wheels stepped it up a bit and for this season by providing not one but two wheelsets for the Cross on the Rock cyclocross race series draw prizes. First up is the solid, well built do it all CrossRock CX carbon tubular wheelset. 24h front, 28h rear with sharp looking gun metal grey hubs and matching lightweight 42g/set skewers. Valued at over $1000 with skewers.

As with 2011, Zed Wheels supplied the signature blue-hub, blue spoke nipples CrossRock AX niobium tubular wheelset. For this year, Zed added matching 42g titaniun skewers.

Craig wins Cross on the Rock #6 – Binab Group GP

The Cross on the Rocks’ second stop in Victoria, BC happened November 11th, 2012 at Western Speedway race course. The Pro City Racing team built a fantastic course complete with a Fly-over! The race attracted many elite roadies, including Jelly Belly’s Nic Hamilton, Rob Britton, Jamie Sparling and the usual characters like Trek Red Truck Racing’s Tyler Trace, Drew MacKenzie, Tom Skinner, Adam de Vos and others. Craig Richey was certainly one to watch having come home for a break after starting his season racing strong in New England.

I certainly hoped for my sponsored riders, Craig Richey, Tom Skinner and Adam de Vos to finish strong. Craig was debuting his CrossRock CX carbon wheelsets, and Tom was on his CrossRock AX disc wheels, while Adam went with his mud tire equipped CrossRock AX alloy wheelset. A great duel between Craig and Tyler ensued and another duel in amongst the top five. In the end Craig Richey took the win, with Drew slipping past Tyler for second, Tyler, and Zed Wheels riders Tom Skinner and Adam de Vos 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

Elite Men Top 5

    1. Craig Richey, p/b Zed Wheels and OBB.
    2. Drew McKenzie, Condo Group p/b Shimano.
    3. Tyler Trace, Team Trek Red Truck Racing.
    4. Tom Skinner, OBB p/b Zed Wheels.
    5. Adam de Vos, Team Trek Red Truck p/b Zed Wheels.

Craig Richey’s CrossRock CX wheelsets

Zed Wheels is proud to be sponsoring Craig Richey for the 2012 Cyclocross season. I met Craig last summer during a track meet at the Westshore Velodrome. He had decided track racing would be a good way to improve his fitness in preparation for his assault on the New England CX scene. Boy was he right! Craig started his season strong, before ‘taking a break’ and returning home to race the locals for a while leading up to Canadian CX Nats on November 17th in Surrey, British Columbia.

I had a wheelbuilding setback in late August, cutting through two fingers on my left hand with my table saw. I was building my son, 10, a ‘retro’ 1970s style skateboard from oak. A dado blade pulled my small and ring finger into the blade. I digress. The point being I wasn’t going to have Craig’s three wheelsets ready before he left for New England. When he got back near end of October, I had his wheels ready for him. Two identical sets of 20f24r CrossRock CX 1250g carbon tubular wheelsets. Craig glued on two sets of Challenge Limus mud tires, a tire he’d raced on last season and knew they’d work well this far into the ‘mud’ season. Good luck to Craig at the Cross on the Rock Episode #6 – Binab Group GP CX on November 11th.
