April showers bring May flowers, or so the saying goes. April showers also bring a tougher Barry’s Roubaix for those that were up to the challenge. The dyke along the Pitt River, combined with the rain, is guaranteed to make for a mucky and gritty road race.

The Cat 3 race had Kevin Ford racing strong, staying near the front for most of the 8 lap 80km race, which through human error at the start/finish, turned into a tough 90km race before it was all done. The lead break of four Cat 1&2 racers were ‘caught’ on the last meters of the dyke by the surging category 3 riders. Kevin managed 8th in the Cat 3 race.

Jamie Cameron, the lone Cat 2 roadie for Pro City Racing, had an equally good race, staying strong throughout despite having challenges seeing where he was going. His Zed Wheels’ hand built ENVE 3.4 wheelset took the pounding on the gravel dyke just fine and Jamie sprinted for 4th in the bunch for an 8th place finish. Cyclocross racer, and last season’s sponsored Zed Wheels pro rider Craig Richey (Trek Red Truck) finished in a break in 4th place. Lead break rider Curtis Deardon (Russ Hays’) was bested by Greg Christian (Garneaux-Evolution) for the Cat 1&2 win.
