Brad … Loving the wheels. Bike corners like its on rails! – Graham on his custom built PowerTap G3 and DT 350 straight pull hubs on Pacenti SL23 rims with CX-Ray spokes.

Graham’s PowerTap/Pacenti SL23 build

Graham had heard about the Pacenti rims, their ride quality, build quality and decent weight for a wider alloy rim (450g). Built with an affordably light and durable DT350 straight pull front hub, Sapim CX-Ray spokes all around and an 11 speed compatible PowerTap G3 hub. 28 holes rear, cross-three and 24 front radially laced.  The set weighs in a 1560g.  He finished up the set with ENVE titanium road skewers.

Graham sent a note commenting on the wheels after the 2014 Tour de Victoria gran fondo:

Brad … Loving the wheels. Bike corners like it’s on rails!

Steve’s custom ENVE 3.4/Tune wheelset

Steve’s custom ENVE 3.4 clincher is the perfect package. The convenience of a clincher rim combined with the extreme weight savings of the Tune Mag 170 and Mig 70 hub set, pulled together with lightweight and strong Sapim CX-Ray spokes.  20h front, 24h rear drillings, this wheelset is a fantastic all-rounder wheelset. At 1420g for the set, this is an exceptional weight for a clincher ENVE 3.4 wheelset.  They look sharp too. Hand built by Brad and tensioned precisely and accurately with a high  quality digital tensiometer that is calibrated regularly using a high-precision electronic S-bend strain gauge.

Steve can relax knowing that ENVE covers their rims with a no nonsense five year warranty and also offers a crash replacement programme should Steve need it.

Geoff’s Chris King R45 Disc/Pacenti ‘cross wheelset

Geoff took advantage of Naked Cycles offer to build some sweet custom steel cyclocross frames, limited to 12 numbered and signed CX bikes for the 2014 season. His bike features some mango orange paint accents. Geoff sourced the hard to find Mango coloured Chris King R45 Disc hubs (28h), and handed them off to Zed Wheel Works to pull together a sweet set of wheels using Sapim Race spokes and Pacenti SL23 all-black rims. He wanted tubeless ready and lightweight. He wasn’t keen on mango overkill, so he settled on mango nipples only near the valve stem. The result is an understated elegance and as you can see, the wheels match up well with his custom Naked CX bike. You’ll see Geoff racing the Cross on the Rock cyclocross race series on this setup.
